Sudanwa ousts Hiroyasa

INDORE: Sixth seed Sudanwa Sitaram knocked out the third-seeded Hiroyasa Ehara of Japan 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 in the boys’ quarterfinals of the Asian junior tennis championship here on Thursday. He meets the top-seeded Liang Chi Huang of Chinese Taipei in the semifinals.

Kaza Vinayak Sharma bounced back from the brink of defeat to beat compatriot Muddappa Appanervanda 1-6, 7-6(1), 6-1, to set up a semifinal clash with the second-seeded Shuichi Sekiguchi of Japan.

In the girls’ section, Tanvi Shah was the lone Indian to make the semifinals.

The results (quarterfinals): Boys: Under-18: Liang Chi Huang (Tpe) bt Vaidik Munshaw 6-4, 6-1; Sudanwa Sitaram bt Hiroyasu Ehara (Jpn) 6-0, 2-6, 6-2; Kaza Vinayak Sharma bt Muddappa Appanervanda 1-6, 7-6(1), 6-1; Shuichi Sekiguchi (Jpn) bt Ronak Manuja 6-4, 6-0.

Girls: Under-18: Miyabi Inoue (Jpn) bt Kobkanok Upapong (Tha) 6-3, 6-1; Kanyapat Narattana (Tha) bt Grace Sari Ysidora (Ina) 6-4, 6-3; Nicha Lertpitaksinchai (Tha) bt Prerna Bhambri 6-2, 6-0; Tanvi Shah bt Sharmada Balu 6-3, 6-1.
