Sneha in line for a double

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sneha Susan Thomas of Kerala was in line for a double after entering the finals of both the under-14 and under-18 sections in the AITA National Talent series tennis tournament at the TTC courts on Thursday.

Sneha blanked teammate A.V. Rithika 6-0, 6-0 to reach the final in the under-14 section. She will meet P. Jayanthi (AP) who overcame T.M. Priyadarshini (TN) 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.

In the under-18 semifinal, Sneha made short work of T.M. Priyadarshini 6-1. 6-0 and will clash with A. Shameema (TN) in the final. Shameema defeated Rithika 6-2, 6-3 in the other semifinal.

H. Suraj of Kerala made it to the boys’ under-14 final after registering a 6-1, 6-2 win over Akhil. He will meet I.B. Akshay in the final.

The results (semifinals):

Boys: Under-18: G.S. Arun Raj (Ker) bt Aravind (Ker) 6-1, 6-0; Monish Rajer (TN) bt Soorya Prasanth (TN) 0-6, 7-6(7), 6-0.

Under-14: H. Suraj (Ker) bt I. Akhil (TN) 6-1, 6-2; I.B. Akshay (TN) bt Nikki Poonacha (TN) 7-6, 6-2.

Girls: Under-18: Sneha Susan Thomas (Ker) bt A.V. Rithika (Ker) 6-0, 6-0; P. Jayanthi (AP) bt Priyadarshini (TN) 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Under-14: Sneha Susan Thomas (Ker) bt Priyadasrshini (TN) 6-1, 6-0; A. Shameema (TN) bt A.V. Rithika (Ker) 6-2, 6-3. — Principal Correspondent
