EC notice to Lalu, Rabri for ‘hate speeches’
J. Balaji
NEW DELHI: The Election Commission (EC) has served notice to RJD leaders, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and the former Bihar Chief Minister, Rabri Devi, for their “hate speeches” violating the model code of conduct in Bihar. Both of them have been given time till 11 a.m. on April 11 to file their replies.
The complaint against Mr. Prasad was that he, at an election meeting at Kishanganj, reportedly said that had he been the country’s Home Minister he would have crushed BJP’s Pilibhit candidate Varun Gandhi under a roller for his anti-Muslim remarks, Ms. Rabri Devi is accused of making derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Deputy Election Commissioner J.P. Prakash said on Thursday that the Commission had also extended the time given to Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray for replying to its notice. Mr. Thackeray had allegedly made “derogatory remarks” against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Mumbai. He should have replied by Thursday but had sought more time.
