MANGALORE: The Peoples’ Union for Democracy (PUD) will organise programmes throughout the State to create awareness among the people to defeat Bharatiya Janata Party in the coming Lok Sabha elections, according to its State unit president K.L. Ashok. Organising workshops and conferences would form part of the State-wide programmes, he added. AllegationMr. Ashok told presspersons here on Thursday that the BJP was taking the State back to medieval age. It had failed to provide electricity to the people after promising free electricity to farmers. It had not shown any interest in the matters concerning the people, he alleged. The BJP’s anti-people stance was demonstrated in the Haveri incident where farmers were killed. The BJP was changing its stand over the Special Economic Zone, he added.Terming the Congress as an opportunist party, Mr. Ashok, however, said that the Congress was less harmful compared to the BJP.Wo rkshops would be held at Bangalore on April 12, Shimoga on 14, Mangalore on 16, Gadag on 17, Mysore on 18, and State-level conferences at Bangalore on April 19 and Mangalore on April 24, he said.
