Gujarat BJP hopes to drive on Nano fever

To distribute cars’ replicas during campaign

Ahmedabad: People’s dream car - Nano - is being seen by the BJP as a potential medium to drive it to victory in the Lok Sabha polls in Gujarat as the saffron party is projecting its shifting to the State as a major achievement of the Modi Government.

The party has decided to distribute the cardboard replicas of Nano car as part of its election campaign in the State. The replicas will also carry photographs of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

“The BJP wants to remind people that the project was brought to Gujarat by our Government. It is likely to make Gujarat an auto hub and will also generate employment,” BJP spokesperson Jagdish Bhavasar said.

The party said that Mr. Modi brought the coveted Nano project beating several other States in the race to bag the project. The project was shifted to Sanand in the State from Singur, West Bengal by the Tata Motors following prolonged protests by the farmers there.

“We have got 25,000 cardboard replicas of Nano made and they will be distributed to voters during our campaign,” Bhavasar said.

Bookings for Nano began across the country on Thursday and will remain open till April 25.

“There has been rush for booking in Ahmedabad and other cities of Gujarat,” those associated with Nano booking said.

The party, which is banking on developmental activities as its main poll plank in the coastal State, also plans to put such replicas on show in all of its offices, they said. --PTI
