U.P. confirms Varun’s booking under NSA
Special Correspondent
LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government has confirmed the decision to book Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi, under the National Security Act (NSA) after the mandatory 12 days, within which the move has to be confirmed, expired on Wednesday.
Mr. Gandhi was booked under the NSA on March 28 following incidents of violence by BJP supporters in the wake of his arrest.
District Magistrate of Pilibhit Ajay Chauhan confirmed to The Hindu that the decision to charge Mr. Gandhi under the NSA, taken by him, was confirmed by the government. The BJP candidate from Pilibhit is currently lodged in the Etah jail.
Mr. Gandhi’s case comes up for hearing in the Supreme Court on April 13.
One of the options before the government is to move the Advisory Board within six weeks.
