Become job providers, official tells students
Staff Reporter
RASIPURAM: The younger generation of the country should show more interest in becoming entrepreneurs, Commercial Taxes Secretary Rajeev Ranjan said.
Participating in the state level seminar on Rural Development and Entrepreneurship organised by the Department of Commerce of Muthayammal College of Arts and Science here recently, he said the youth constitute about 40 percent of the population in the country. But the number of entrepreneurs in the country remains low when compared to China.
The younger generation should come forward to utilise their science and technology skills to start enterprises. Students should not remain as job seekers. They should aim to become job providers, he stressed.
Talking about the global economic slow down, Mr. Ranjan said that over six lakh people in different parts of the world have lost their jobs in the last six months.
But the crisis had not affected the Indian economy to a great extent.
Awareness
Professor from Annamalai University H. Shankar called upon the students to create awareness among the rural entrepreneurs about marketing their products.
