Kottayam
KOTTAYAM: A Member of Parliament should be assessed on the basis of his or her performance in the Parliament and also on the development front, according to the UDF candidate for Kottayam Lok Sabha constituency, Jose K. Mani. Speaking to mediapersons at the meet-the-press programme on Saturday, Mr. Mani said the personal initiative of an MP had a role to play in getting the various developmental programmes implemented with Centre’s assistance. He said that the doubling of rails has not reached Kottayam yet. Mr. Mani said there needs to be consensus on the issues concerning development. The LDF candidate K. Suresh Kurup said the fundamentals which ensured his victory during the past three Parliament polls were still relevant. The developmental projects commenced during his tenure as an MP would have to be completed. This include the doubling of the Ernakulam-Kottayam- Kayamkulam railway line and the Rs.700 crore expansion and diversification project at HNL, he said.
