‘Silent revolution catching on’

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: People are ready for a genuine change and a silent revolution is gaining momentum as they are drawn to the Lok Satta Party and value politics it stands for, said Lok Satta president Jayaprakash Narayan here on Saturday.

Participating at a ‘Meet the Press’ organised by AP Working Journalists Federation, he said people were convinced with the Lok Satta Party’s agenda, but only wonder whether the change they wanted would really happen.

“This is where youth and different sections of society should take the lead and convince people that their vote to the Lok Satta Party would not go waste as being propagated by traditional parties,” he said.

Against inducements

Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan admitted that the Lok Satta Party was still contending with some shortcomings like breaking popular prejudice that elections could not be won without inducements like money and liquor. They needed more leaders to transform growing response for Lok Satta into votes and media coverage to reach nook and corners which they were not getting on par with traditional parties.

The Lok Satta Party’s election campaign budget for entire State was less than half of what was spent by traditional parties in one single parliamentary constituency, he said.

Replying to a question, he said the Lok Satta Party was not against subsidies as it had included free quality education, health and skill-training in their manifesto as they would help improve productivity of people and involvement in wealth creation in society. However, they were opposed to sops like cash transfer, colour TVs, loan waiver as they would not give people self-respect or help them become self-reliant.
