Second such vessel delivered to Norwegian buyer Shipyard plans to diversify to high-end ships KOCHI: The Cochin Shipyard Limited has delivered a platform supply vessel to NFC Offshore, Norway. This is the second vessel delivered to the owner — the previous one was given on March 30. The protocol documents of the ship named ‘Hellespont Dawn’ was signed by Cherian George, Chief General Manager (Shipbuilding), on behalf of the shipyard and Michael B. Kennedy, Managing Director, on behalf of NFC Offshore in the presence of N.M. Paramesh, Director (Finance) and Cmde K. Subramaniam, Director (Operations), says a press release. Aircraft carrierCochin Shipyard is presently constructing 16 such ships for various foreign owners. The yard is also constructing an aircraft carrier for the Indian Navy. The yard is hoping to diversify into high-end ships with diesel electric propulsion, which is still on the drawing board. It is likely to commence construction of these ships by next year. Various Indian and foreign owners have shown interest in these high-end ships. The platform supply ships are of the popular UT 755 LN design for the offshore industry. The vessel is designed for specific demands of transport of deck cargo, pipes, liquid cargo, cement/ barite etc. and unloading to rigs and production platforms, pipe laying barges etc. More demandThey are the workhorses of offshore oil field industry, acting as a lifeline carrying all operational supplies and stores to far off offshore installations. As the offshore industry moves into deeper waters, demand for such advanced vessels is expected to rise. The ship is built and classified under the most stringent rules and regulations of Det Norske Veritas and is classed for unmanned engine room and dynamic positioning grade II. The vessel also satisfies “CLEAN” Notation of DNV which signifies high standards of environmental safety, adds the release.
