Sudanwa falters

INDORE: Sudanwa Sitaram started well but went down 7-6(5), 1-6, 3-6 to the second-seeded Shuichi Sekiguchi of Japan in the boys’ final of the Asian junior tennis championship on Saturday.

It was a double for Sekiguchi as he won the doubles title as well, in partnership with Hiroyasu Ehara.

In the girls’ final, the eighth-seeded Nicha Lertpitaksinchai of Thailand fought from the brink of defeat to beat the top-seeded Miyabi Inoue of Japan in three sets.

The results (finals):

Under-18 boys: Shuichi Sekiguchi (Jpn) bt Sudanwa Sitaram 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-3; Doubles: Hiroyasu Ehara and Shuichi Sekiguchi (Jpn) bt Liang-Chi Huang (Tpe) and Juan Antonio Los Santos (Mas) 4-6, 6-4, 10-7.

Under-18 girls: Nicha Lertpitaksinchai (Tha) bt Miyabi Inoue (Jpn) 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-3; Doubles: Miyabi Inoue (Jpn) and Kobikanok Upapong (Tha) bt Kanyapat Narattana (Tha) and Grace Sari Ysidora (Ina) 6-7(2), 6-4, 12-10.
