Polls come in handy for them
Mumbai: The elections have come as a boon for many unemployed youths, at least in the financial capital of the country, with political parties hiring people even from Ganesh utsav mandals to campaign for their candidates.
The demand for these youths can be gauged from the fact that even an average-sized mandal with around 25 members can earn at least Rs. 1 lakh to carry out poll-related work at a single booth comprising around 1,000 voters.
And, there will be at least 1,000 polling booths in just one Lok Sabha constituency.
Political parties need the services of these youths to familiarise their candidates in their neighbourhood, according to Ashok Dawde, a member of the Tiranga Mitra Mandal in central Mumbai.
Apart from money, these people are provided food, snacks, tea and sometimes even liquor, said Mr. Dawde. — PTI
