Bangalore: The family members of V. Bhargava, marine engineer, who died in the bungee jumping event near here on Saturday, have decided to approach Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa even as the police are yet to start investigation.

“We will discuss the issue after the funeral in Chennai. We will also meet Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari to demand action against those responsible for the accident,” Santhosh Chandrakirthy, a friend of the victim, told presspersons at Victoria Hospital. He said, “We visited the Paintball arena where the accident occurred and after speaking to eye-witnesses, we learnt that Bhargava was lying on the ground for more than 40 minutes.”

The family members also felt that if he was administered first aid and taken to hospital immediately, his life could have been saved. His friends also alleged that the organisers neglected the safety of bungee jumpers.

Bhargava, an employee of Danish Maersk Shipping Company in Mangalore, had come to Bangalore as a part of the 15-member team from Chennai. “In their website, the Centre for Adventure and Rejuvenation of Environment (CARE) and Head Rush Bungee, city-based adventure sports companies, had promised to provide ambulance and first aid services throughout the event. But there was no safety net, no first aid, no ambulance and other sufficient precautions,” Mr. Santhosh said.

Meanwhile, the body of Bhargava was handed over to his parents after a post-mortem at the Victoria Hospital.

“The victim died of injuries in the head, neck, legs and hands. However, we are awaiting the post-mortem report,” said an official of the Bannerghatta Police Station.

While Head Rush proprietor Sachin Venkatesaiah was arrested and released on bail after being produced before a court in Anekal, a search is on to arrest CARE head S.K. Sheshadri, sources said.

“The city has no experts to find out the reasons for Saturday’s accident. We are seeking information from other cities where such incidents may have happened,” a senior officer of Bangalore Rural police said.
