CDs smuggled from China seized

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A total of 25,000 compact discs (CDs) that were smuggled to Chennai from China via New Delhi were seized by the city police on Saturday night. The seizure of the CDs, worth Rs.1.5 crore, is the biggest ever in the city, according to the police.

Three persons have been arrested and the police suspect this to be part of a wider network, an international racket.

Giving details on Sunday, Commissioner of Police K. Radhakrishnan said that following a tip-off, a police team headed by Joint Commissioner of Police (North Zone) M. Ravi conducted a raid on a house in Bombiliyar Street, Elephant Gate, on Saturday night and seized 12,000 CDs with pornographic content and 13,000 CDs of English and Hindi movies.

Nivas (20), Harishanker (40) and Ajay Kumar Singh (40), all natives of Jharkand, were arrested. Another accused identified as Mahesh is absconding.
