Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM: Following a quarrel over sharing of water for irrigation, 50-year-old R. Kuppammal, wife of S. Rajagoplan of Melsevalampadikuppam near here, was killed by four persons.

The police said that the families of Kuppammal and S. Sedu (29) were using a common water source in turns for irrigation.

Wordy duel

However, when Kuppammal’s son Pattusamy (24) allegedly did not adhere to his turn, it led to a wordy duel and subsequently free-for-all.

Kuppammal was attacked with a crowbar and a spade. She died on the spot.

Both Pattusamy and his wife Saritha (20), who came to rescue Kuppammal, sustained injuries.

They were been admitted to hospital. In this connection, the police arrested Sedu, S.Kumar (24) and R.Murugaiyan (34).

They are on the lookout for S.Devaki (50).
