HYDERABAD: Touting itself as the underdog, Praja Rajyam on Monday lashed out at the Congress and TDP, while making a fervent plea asking people to give it a chance. Party leader T. Devender Goud, general secretary C. Uma Malleswara Rao and spokesperson Vasireddy Padma alleged that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu were promoting a joint ‘political jagirdari’ (fiefdom) and denying a fledgling PR the political space it deserved. Mr. Goud hit out at Dr. Reddy and Mr. Naidu for executing a well-conceived plan to ‘malign/confuse’ people against the PR. Because the two enjoyed absolute power, they wanted to stop the ‘rail engine’, he said, adding that they did not seem to mind who was the Chief Minister and hence unwilling to allow a new party to take out their existing political space. On the comments made by Parakala Prabhakar, former PR general secretary who quit recently causing a good deal of embarrassment, Mr. Goud said his allegations were ‘unfortunate’ and came at a time when a silent revolution was sweeping across the State. “People are waiting for ‘change’ promised by Mr. Chiranjeevi and are willing to elect us,” he said. Ms. Padma alleged that Dr. Reddy and Mr. Naidu were ‘colluding’ just to prevent the PR from coming to power. They were even able to influence bureaucrats, constitutional bodies and independent enquiry agencies as they hailed from the same school of politics.
