THENI: The State and Central governments miserably failed to check rise in prices of essential commodities, problems of agriculturists and scale down unemployment. Both the Congress and the DMK have been betraying people since time immemorial, charged Vijaykant, leader, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam. He was kick starting his second leg of election campaign for his candidate M.G. Santhanam at Uthamapalayam near here on Monday evening. “Whenever you pinpoint their (AIADMK and DMK) mistakes, they instigated communal tension and diverted your attention. Do not believe the leaders who flew in helicopters. They did not know the ground reality and problems of people. I came on road and traversed through villages. I fully realised your problems well.” Focusing on the inaction and inefficiency of the State government in settling water disputes with neighbouring states, he said silk cotton processing unit and grape processing centre, both predominant crops in Cumbum valley and Bodinayakkanur, were not established till date. The AIADMK and the DMK gave a lot of empty promises to people of this constituency. Nothing had been implemented till date, he flayed. They snatched all livelihood activities of weavers and rural poor and offered rice for Re 1. What a pathetic thing, he deplored. What Haroon did?“I do not know what Periakulam MP J.M. Haroon did to the district during his five year tenure. MPs have come and gone. Your problems remain green.” Stating that Centre had spent several crores of rupees for laying highways, he said: If the government spent this fund for health care and education, rural mass would benefit. The DMDK would make all efforts to introduce equal education to all. Reacting to Mr. Karunanidhi’s statement that he would not leave ‘hand,’ the actor charged that the Chief Minister abandoned hands of thousands of innocent Tamils in order to hold Congress hand firmly. When the crowd shouted to discuss about cardamom issue, he said that cardamom was affluent farmers’ produce. “Let us talk about poor ryots.” PMK smartHitting hard on Patali Makkal Katchi, Vijaykant said that the PMK was smart in clinching alliance with arch Dravidian rivals to stay in power and earn continuously. He campaigned Uthamapalayam, Kombai Rasingapuram, Bodi, Theni and Periakulam and proceed to Sholavandhan.
