Tiruchi
The indiscriminate cutting of trees in Thillai Nagar is deplorable. Have the people no heart that they should not come together to prevent the cutting? Should we not think of our future generation when we do anything? Do we want our children and grandchildren to remember us with hate? Dr. Abel Manoj Abraham, Thillainagar. Train from NagoreThe last train from Nagore to Thanjavur / Tiruchi is at 6.05 p.m. Devotees visiting Nagore Dargah can not board this train after the evening prayers. They have to travel by bus and this causes much hardship. I request the Railways to introduce a late night train from Nagore at 9 p.m. Ahamed Hussain,Singarathope. Don’t fill potholes, relay the roadThe stretch of road between Thiruvanaikoil and Chennai Bypass Road-Kallanai Road junction had gaping potholes. The Corporation recently filled the pits. This will not last. The Corporation must consider relaying the road. K. R. Rajbarath, Thiruvanaikoil. Arrears delayI am a retired railway official receiving pension through State Bank of India, Srirangam. My pension, gratuity and commutation of pension have been revised on January 30 this year and the advice has been received in the bank branch at Srirangam in the third week of February. But till date the revison has not been effected. I have requested the bank official on many occasions, but without any result. I request the bank to do the needful. G. Subramanian Srirangam. Integrated bus standThis refers to the call for a bus stand at Panjapur . Panjapur is not suitable as an integrated bus stand for Tiruchi as it is far away from Chatram and old town areas such as Main Guard Gate. The right choice would be Mannarpuram where defence land remains unused. A. V. Narayanan, Thillainagar. Mobile telephone worriesMy AirTel is a white elephant in that my balance (pre-paid) gets dwindled in a clandestine manner in the guise of SMS. This is as much as Rs. 14 at frequent intervals. Their explanation is that I may have made them unwittingly while surfing various functions. Even if this is true, it may be a fraction of a minute, which should not cost as much as Rs. 14 every time. This happens even when the cell is not in use. I switched off my cell for a few days and to my dismay the balance came down considerably. K. Srinivasan, Chinthamani. Tulasi as purifierUttar Pradesh Government has planned to plant Tulasi in very large numbers around Taj Mahalfor saving this monument from the toxic gases emanating from nearby chemical factories. It is claimed that this plant has the capacity to purify the environment. Let all grow Tulasi in the road medians so that vehicular pollution can be minimised. Industries can also planting this. Dalmiapuram Gannesan, Srirangam. Banks must issue good notesCustomers go to banks for fresh currency notes. But unfortunately, these days, banks are placing soiled and torn notes in the wads. Such notes are not accepted in the day-to-day transactions, including the issuing banks. Banks have a duty to ensure that they disburse good currency notes. Further, the practice of stapling the notes has not yet been dispensed with despite Reserve Bank of India’s instructions David Peniel, Teppakulam. Free buses of musicMusic brings peace of mind when playing in good atmosphere. Playing music in city buses is nothing but a torture with its horrible sounds added to blaring horns . Nobody can enjoy music in a short period of ten minutes. Some times it may divert the attention of the drivers, leading to accidents. Hence, playing of music in the city buses should be banned. T. Rangasamy, Srirangam. Bugs in SETC busesI travelled to Marthandam by an SETC bus last week. The journey was very uncomfortable due to heavy bug bites. Bug menace in SETC buses had already been reported in this column, but little appears to have been done by the transport corporation to get rid of them. R. Paramasivam, Airport. Pay arrearsAware of life expectancy of pensioners, Centre has broken the convention that arrears due to pensioners shall not be postponed, by deferring payment of 60 percent of Pay Commission arrears to next financial year denying personal payment to those dying till March 31, 2009 as if it is life insurance due. It can order immediately for payment on 01.04.09 itself to assure personal payment at least to other pensioners to see themselves the hard earned deferred wages without passing it on to the heirs. Shantharao, Thiruvanaikoil. Bank manager is also a gentlemanRecently my Indian Bank ATM card was stuck in the ATM machine after taking the cash. As it was a Sunday, I did not know what to do? Because of this problem, other customers were also not able the take cash. After a few hours, I could get the mobile number of the Branch Manager, contacted him over phone, and explained the situation. The OFT branch manager rushed to the spot by his two-wheeler all the way from the city and set right everything. I am still struggling to find the words to express my gratitude to him. It shows his sincerity . S. Rajagopal, OFT Estate. Health hazardA lot of shops selling meat, chicken and fish have sprung up in and around Srirangam. Most of them are selling these items in the open causing a big health hazard to not only the passersby but also consumers. It is surprising that no action is taken against these literal carriers of health hazard. The open space at the old bus stand is used as a makeshift fish market where fish is being sold everyday in one of the most filthiest of surroundings. The public should desist from making purchases from such open areas keeping in mind their health. I request the corporation authorities to launch a crackdown. J. Anantha Padmanabhan, Srirangam. Traffic violationAfter 10 p.m., there is a traffic jam on the overbridge near Tiruchi Junction as the signal lights are put off. The traffic cops too abandon this vulnerable junction after 10.00p.m. As a result, bus/lorry crew violate all road rules. It takes more than one hour to cross the bridge. H. Ghouse Baig, Golden Rock.
