In full flow: Party activists throng Central Junction in Pathanamthitta, marking the culmination of the month-long election campaign on Tuesday.

PATHANAMTHITTA: With 48 hours left for the polls, campaigning by political camps came to an end in the town on Tuesday afternoon.

Though the month-long campaign by contestants was low-key when compared to the earlier general elections, the culmination of the poll campaign turned out to be a noisy one. Candidates, along with their supporters, assembled at the Central Junction in the afternoon. They raised slogans at a high pitch in favour of their candidates.

United Democratic Front candidate Anto Antony was the first to reach the town along with an enthusiastic group of supporters around 3.30 pm and they took position around the Gandhi statue. The Left Democratic Front supporters, led by their candidate, K. Ananthagopan, reached the spot a few minutes, later and took position nearby. The BJP supporters, along with the candidate, B. Radhakrishna Menon, reached the spot at the same time.

The campaign vehicles, fitted with modern sound system, belonging to the Nationalist Congress Party candidate Mani C.Kappan and Bahujan Samaj Party candidate K.K. Nair, too reached the town.

Later, there was a minor clash between two groups of LDF and UDF workers after they traded charges over damaging of a hoarding in the town. However, the loud speakers came to a sudden halt at sharp 5 p.m., bringing an end to the poll campaign.
