Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) on Tuesday announced former Madras High Court Judge Justice K. Swamidurai as the party’s candidate for Villupuram (reserved) constituency, replacing S.P.Velayutham, who is facing a CBI inquiry.

VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan met Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and informed him about the change. Mr Swamidurai was present during the meeting.

Mr. Thirumavalavan told reporters that Mr Velayutham himself had offered to quit the race. The Madras High Court ordered an inquiry by the CBI in a complaint against Mr. Velayudham in a cheque dishonouring case.

Seventy-seven year old Swamidurai also served as a member of the State Human Rights Commission. He is also a member of the sub-committee set up to help Sri Lankan Tamils Rights and Welfare Forum launched by the DMK.
