turning nostalgic: Actor Chinni Jayanth with a former teacher of Ramakrishna Centenary Primary School at its reunion recently. CHENNAI: It was a happy reunion for the old students and teachers of the Ramakrishna Centenary Primary School in the city recently. The reunion took them down the memory lane, as many shared anecdotes about an important phase of their life, in the school. Several teachers, despite their old-age attended the function and fondly recollected many incidents that happened in their classes. They said that it was a privilege to have been teachers of the primary school of the Ramakrishna Mission. Actor Chinni Jayanth, an alumnus of the school, said his name as per the school records was P. Narayanan. He credited his growth and success to the school and its teachers. He also assured the school management of assistance if sought for. Deshikatmananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Students Home, appreciated the efforts of the old students to organise such a programme to honour their teachers. Noting that the primary school was started in 1936, he said teachers play an important role in building the character of a student by providing love, guidance and help. Choosy parentsHe said that parents nowadays are choosy in putting their children in English medium school and rued that as a result the student strength of the primary school had dropped from around 500 students a few years ago to 107.
