The colleges do not have sufficient infrastructure or quality faculty on rolls Admission to these colleges may be prevented during this academic year CHENNAI: The Anna University Syndicate has decided to issue a show-cause notice to four of its affiliated colleges, asking why they should not be disaffiliated, since they have failed to meet the university’s requirements. At its meeting on Wednesday, the Syndicate decided to issue show-cause notices to the PMR Institute of Technology, the GGR College of Engineering, VKK Vijayan Engineering College and Sri Ram Engineering College, according to several members who attended the meeting. Admission to these colleges may also be prevented during this academic year, they said. This action was being taken against the colleges since they did not have sufficient infrastructure or quality faculty on the rolls, they said. In the case of VKK Vijayan and Sri Ram colleges, only one course was being slapped with the show-cause notice. So far as the PMR Institute of Technology was concerned, there was also a case of faculty impersonation, they said. The Syndicate had, in fact, decided to issue a show-cause notice to PMR Institute of Technology at its meeting in February, since a university inspection team had found evidence that the college management had brought in employees from a private software company and a school to act as faculty of the college. However, after protests staged by PMR students who had demanded a transfer to other institutions due to the poor infrastructure and lack of qualified faculty, the college management had promised to take measures to address the problems, and the university decided to constitute a five-member committee to inspect the college and inquire into the situation once again before taking any action. At its Wednesday meeting, the Syndicate considered the report of the five-member committee, which had found confirmatory evidence that faculty impersonation had taken place. Therefore, the decision was taken to issue a show-cause notice to the institution.
