VISAKHAPATNAM: The Election Commission of India has issued orders that voters in the States and Union Territories, who have been issued Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC), shall produce these cards for establishing their identity before casting their votes at the current general elections to the Lok Sabha and to the Legislative Assembly. The Election Commission has also permitted electors who have not obtained EPICs to vote in the general elections provided their identity is otherwise established by production of one of the alternative documents prescribed by the commission as listed below: 1. Passport; 2. Driving licence; 3. Permanent Account Number (PAN) card; 4. Service identity card issued to its employees by State/Central Government, public sector undertakings, local bodies or other public limited companies with photographs; 5. Passbook issued by public sector banks, Post Office and Kissan Passbooks with photographs (accounts opened up to Feb 28, 2009); 6. Property document such as pattas, registered deeds etc with photograph; 7. SC/ST/OBC certificates issued by competent authority with photograph (issued up to Feb 28, 2009); Pension documents such as ex servicemen’s pension books/pension payment order, ex- serviceman’s widow/dependent certificate, old age pension order, widow pension order with photograph (issued up to Feb 28, 2009); 9. Freedom fighter identity card with photograph; 10. Arms licence (issued up to Feb 28, 2009); 11. Certificate of physical handicap with photograph issued by competent authority (issued up to Feb 28, 2009); 12. Job cards issued under NREGA with photograph (issued up to Feb 28, 2009) and 13. Health insurance scheme Smart Card with photograph (Ministry of Labour Scheme issued up to Feb 28, 2009). Further, the ECI has also ordered that any of the above mentioned documents available only to the head of the family may be used for identifying the other members of the family, provided all members come together and are identified by the head of the family.
