CHENNAI: There is a demand for job-oriented, practical courses, particularly in areas like office automation and executive secretaryship, N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu, said here on Wednesday. Speaking after inaugurating the renovated computer lab of The Stenographers Guild in T. Nagar, he commended its yeoman service in helping many students find employment. The institute offered job-oriented, practical courses to make students employable. Highlighting the Guild’s social initiatives, he said that the fee for the courses was nominal and in some cases it offered free courses. With changes in technology, the Guild had adapted and transformed itself and offered courses pertinent to the present times, Mr. Murali added. S.V. Ramaswamy, honorary president of the Guild, said that it planned to offer English classes for students in rural areas. He said that the computer lab, which was started in 1989 had been renovated at a cost of Rs. 4 lakh. The institution offered free courses to economically backward, slum dwellers, transgenders and gypsies. M. Nagasubramanian, honorary secretary of the Guild, spoke.
