Udhagamandalam: Police personnel should keep a watch over persons with criminal antecedents while providing bandobust for the coming elections, said the Nilgiris Collector, Anandrao V. Patil, here on Thursday.

Presiding over a training programme for police officers, he said that persons with criminal records should not be put as booth agents by the political parties or candidates.

Vehicles

Stating that the police should ensure that norms were adhered to while filing nominations, he said that only vehicles with permits should be allowed. Photo copies of permits should not be entertained.

Character assassination during campaigning should not be allowed.

While caste or communal feelings should not come to the fore at pubic meetings, places of worship should not be used for poll propaganda.

Rallies

At public meetings, the police should be on guard against supporters of opponents creating problems. They should be careful while allotting routes for processions. Rallies should be conducted in such a manner that traffic was not disrupted.

A demonstration on the operation of electronic voting machines formed part of the programme. The Superintendent of Police, A.G. Babu, also participated.
