HYDERABAD: Claiming that vote transfer among the four partners of the Grand Alliance has taken place in perfect understanding in the first phase, Telugu Desam has exuded confidence of winning in 120 of the 154 Assembly seats. Addressing the press , TDP leaders Umareddy Venkateswarlu and L.V.S.R.K. Prasad said going by the voting pattern, most of its candidates would bag a good majority. As reports from districts poured in, the party appeared upbeat and started distributing sweets. and bursting crackers at NTR Trust Bhavan, to celebrate the “good peformance of the alliance partners” in the first phase. “The Alliance has dealt a severe blow to the Congress, and it may be difficult for it to recover in the second phase” Mr. Venkateswarlu said. IndicationsThe performance of the Alliance was such that most of the Ministers have lost hope of winning. Home Minister K. Jana Reddy holding out threat of arrest against voters in his Nagarjunasagar constituency, the attack on TDP candidate A. Revanth Reddy in Kodangal and hurling of stones at TDP spokesperson, N. Rajakumari showed their desperation. “All these are indications for Congress defeat. We may break all records and Congress may not even get the recognised Opposition like it happened in 1994”, Mr. Venkateswarlu said. The voting pattern also showed that people did not fall for inducement offered by the Congress and TDP-led Alliance partners have worked together for the success of their candidates. The cash transfer scheme and distribution of colour TVs have gone well into the people so was the misrule and maladministration of the Congress. “ From Congress jai ho, it has become Mahakutami jai ho”, Mr. Venkateswarlu added. Asked about the position of Praja Rajyam, he said while TDP already bagged gold medal in the first phase election race, the Congress and PR were struggling to secure silver or the second place.
