Rohit Havaldar hauls it in

BANGALORE: Rohit Havaldar of SBM Jain College walked away with the richest purse of Rs. 1,67,500 as Bangalore University honoured its achievers who did the University proud in the all-India South-West Zone inter-university meets for the year 2008-09.

Yogesh in final

Top-seed Yogesh Shah of Gujarat defeated Andhra Pradesh’s Chinni Sudhakar 7-5, 6-1 in a Raju Vegesna AISTA All-India senior tennis championship’s above-45 years singles semifinals here on Thursday.

The results (semifinals):

Above-45: Yogesh Shah bt Chinni Sudhakar 7-5, 6-1; S. Narendranath bt R. Nagaraj 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (4).

Above-55: S. Settu bt K. Radhakrishna Murthy 7-5, 6-2; Rammohan Rao bt D. Gururaj 6-3, 7-5.

Above-65: S. Parekh bt Y.D. Vijay Kumar 6-0, 6-0; T. Sreedhar bt M. Krishnaswamy 7-6 (2), 6-2.

Thrilling win

Ambedkar Sports Club snatched a thrilling 50-49 win over Nationals (Mysore) to enter the boys’ quarterfinals of the State Youth basketball championship here on Thursday. Ambedkar trailed 15-17 at the halfway stage.
