Filing papers: The BJP candidate from New Delhi, Vijay Goel, on his way to file his papers in the Capital on Thursday. NEW DELHI: Accompanied by a number of senior party leaders, BJP candidate from New Delhi Vijay Goel filed his nomination papers for the Lok Sabha election at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Jamnagar House here on Thursday. After participating in a religious ceremony, Mr. Goel set out in a convoy of three vehicles from 1 Lodhi Estate. While some leaders sat in the vehicles, the others walked the distance. On reaching there, Mr. Goel went inside accompanied by Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra, former Minister S.P. Ratawal and Delhi Cantt. MLA Karan Singh Tanwar. Inside the premises, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra and former Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Vijai Kapoor were already present. Then a delegation comprising the two senior leaders, Ms. Mehra and an advocate went along with Mr. Goel to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Later Mr. Goel said he was confident that he would win the election as the beginning has been made on an auspicious note. “My name has been proposed by two Vijays besides former Union Minister Arun Shourie and Delhi Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) president Manjeet Singh.” Earlier in the day, Mr. Goel met former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the party’s prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani and took their blessings. “Since party president Rajnath Singh was not here, I called him to take his wishes.” Mr. Goel said national issues like UPA’s soft approach towards terrorism and NDA’s past record of dealing with terrorists with a firm hand would be raised in the elections. Also at a time when prices have soared, over one crore people have been rendered unemployed in the country and the Manmohan Singh Government has failed to curb this trend. “He had promised creation of jobs, but people are losing jobs instead,” Mr. Goel lamented. The BJP candidate said he would also be raising local issues. “Elect those who work for you and are available to you” is the slogan on which Mr. Goel would be asking for votes.
