Woman relieved of gold jewels
Special Correspondent
Chennai: A septuagenarian was relieved of her 12-sovereign gold ornaments by a two-member gang at Otter here on Thursday. According to police sources, Vatsala (70) of Secretariat Colony was returning home from a shop when the accused, posing as police personnel in plainclothes, warned of frequent chain-snatching incidents in the area. They advised her to remove her jewellery and keep them safe. As the woman tried to keep her jewels in a bag, one of the accused offered to pack them in a piece of paper. When Vatsala went home and opened the paper packet, she saw some stones and sand.
