Amar Singh seeks removal of 9 Uttar Pradesh officials

Atiq Khan

LUCKNOW: National general secretary of Samajwadi Party Amar Singh has demanded that the Election Commission remove nine officials of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s Secretariat. He alleged that they were functioning as Bahujan Samaj Party workers.

Mr. Singh told journalists that the phone records of these officials of the last 15 days should be retrieved. It would prove they were functioning as BSP agents.

Defending party general secretary and actor Sanjay Dutt, he denied Mr. Dutt had delivered an inflammatory speech.

In an election speech in Mau a couple of days back, Mr. Dutt reportedly said that since his mother Nargis Dutt was a Muslim third degree methods were applied on him by the police during his incarceration under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act.

Dares Mayawati

Mr. Singh said Mr. Dutt was merely expressing his pain.

He dared Ms. Mayawati to book him and Mr. Dutt under the National Security Act.

Chief Electoral Officer of U.P. Anuj Kumar Bishnoi confirmed that an FIR was lodged in Mau against the actor for his ‘inflammatory’ speech.

The CEO, however, did not confirm whether another case was filed against Mr. Dutt in Pratapgarh, for making alleged derogatory remarks against Ms. Mayawati. A case under Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code is reported to have been filed against Mr. Dutt in Pratapgarh.

Mr. Singh also defended Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lalu Prasad, who had said the Congress was equally responsible (alongwith BJP) for the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

He said the Congress and the BSP were involved in shadow boxing. Referring to the withdrawal of his Y security by the State government, Mr. Singh alleged that the decision was politically motivated.

He said that lawyers Gopal Subramaniam and Pradeep Dubey were earlier involved in preparing Ms. Mayawati’s petition in the Taj Heritage Corridor case.

Now Mr. Subramaniam was opposing Ms. Mayawati as Central Bureau of Investigation counsel in the disproportionate assets case.
