DAY OF THE VETERAN: Anil Kumble (second from left), who scripted Royal Challengers Bangalore’s victory, celebrates with teammates in the match against Rajasthan Royals, in Cape Town on Saturday. Cape Town: Royal Challengers Bangalore – defending 133 with resolve – stunned defending champion Rajasthan Royals by 75 runs in the second match of the Indian Premier League here on Saturday. After the pacemen blew away the top and middle-order, champion leg-spinner Anil Kumble sliced through the second half of the line-up with a deadly mix of precision and subtle variations. Kumble finished with five for five off 3.1 probing overs. Royals was bundled out for 58, the lowest total in the IPL. Earlier, Man-of-the-Match Rahul Dravid’s 48-ball 66 — a fighting innings under adverse circumstances — had given Royal Challengers something to bowl at. The Bangalore team came back hard on the field. Praveen Kumar struck with the new ball when Swapnil Asnodkar (0) miscued an attempted swipe over mid-wicket. Soon, Graeme Smith (2) was walking back after failing to keep a steer down and being picked up in the slips. Royal Challengers was full of beans. And Jesse Ryder made further inroads with his stump-to-stump medium pace bowling. Niraj Patel (4) was held at mid-on by Kumble while a struggling Tyron Hendersen (11) was done in by Ryder’s slower one.
