Election observers to arrive soon in Salem, Namakkal constituencies

Counting tables, chairs, electricity and drinking water facilities have been provided

Election media centre inaugurated in Salem, to be used for news dissemination


SALEM: The election observers of the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the Salem Parliament constituency will arrive here on April 24 and will inspect the poll arrangements.

Disclosing this, District Election Officer and Collector J. Chandrakumar, said that almost all the arrangements for the polls had been completed in Salem constituency.

The counting centre at the Government Engineering College was getting a face-lift and all works related to the elections were also being carried out.

The six centres for counting on the college premises had already been handed over to the police.

Necessary infrastructure including counting tables, chairs, electricity, separations and drinking water facilities had been provided.

The Collector pointed out that irrespective of candidates’ affiliations only four members would be permitted with them while filing nominations.

Earlier on Saturday, he inaugurated the election media centre for the Parliament polls, which members of the public and journalists could use for news dissemination.

District Revenue Officer M. Rajarathinam and other officials were present.

The Election Commission of India has appointed three observers to monitor the conduct of the forthcoming elections in Namakkal parliamentary constituency.

Farood Ahmed, an IAS official from Jammu Kashmir, was appointed as election observer for Namakkal and Paramathi Velur assembly segments.

Voters and candidates can contact the observer on mobile number 94431-49077.

Special Tahsildar from Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department G. Sampath was appointed liasion officer for the two segments. He could be contacted on mobile number 94437-69300.

Mr. Chulam Hassan Tandray was appointed election observer for the Rasipuram and Senthamangalam assembly segments. His mobile number is 94431-49678.

Special Tahsildar (Land Acquisition-Railway) S.R. Sekar (98945-14722) was appointed liaison officer for the two segments.

S.S.S.S. Gopinath (94431-49079) from Andhra Pradesh was appointed observer for election expenditure.

Special Tahsildar (Land Acquisition National Highways) G. Rangarajan (94437-70560) was the liaison officer.

The district administration had made arrangements to facilitate the observers to visit the assembly segments.

The observers are expected to arrive in the district after April 20, according to a press release from Collector U. Sagayam.
