Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM: Voter turnout for the 2009 elections to the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly in the district is probably the highest. During the polling held on April 16, 72.54 per cent of the 29,21,482 voters have exercised their franchise.

This was slightly 6 per cent more than the 66.04 per cent recorded during the 2004 elections. The percentage of male voters who exercised their franchise was 71.85 (out of 14,35,548) but less than the women’s turnout of 73.22 per cent (out of total of 14,85,934).

Percentage of voting in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle Parliamentary constituencies was 72.92 and 79.26 respectively. It was 66.71 per cent in Araku (ST) Parliamentary constituency.
