Four killed as lorry overturns

Workers who were fast asleep got trapped under the load of iron pipes

FATAL ACCIDENT: The lorry lying on its side near Denkanikottai in Krishnagiri on Sunday.

DENKANIKOTTAI: Four persons were killed and six others injured when a lorry overturned near Denkanikottai in the early hours on Sunday.

According to police, the driver of the lorry laden with iron and plastic pipes meant for a borewell lost control and overturned while negotiating a curve at Athimarathupallam near Thippasandiram on Dharmapuri-Panchapalli road.

Four workers from Orissa – Babuli (25), Niranjan (22), Lakkan (38) and Rajendran (35) – died on the spot. The workers who were fast asleep were trapped under iron pipes. The lorry driver, Loganathan, and five others, Pradeep, Sachun, Thyagu, Murugesan and Raja, escaped with injuries and were admitted to Denkanikottai government hospital.

The police have registered a case and are investigating.
