Police fire in air to quell clashing groups

Staff Reporter

AMALAPURAM: Police fired four rounds in the air and resorted to lathi-charge after group clashes at Goodala village near Allavaram on Sunday.

The mob looted about 40 houses, destroyed furniture, damaged a Maruti van and ten motorcycles.

An old woman died of heart attack when a mob attacked her house during the clashes, while a pregnant woman sustained serious injuries when she was beaten up by the same group. Superintendent of Police Charu Sinha said that a group of youths hired an autorickshaw on Saturday night. The youths first argued with the autorickshaw driver and then beat him up. The driver gathered his men and roughed them up.
