Indian boys lose

NEW DELHI: The Indian boys lost 3-0 to Uzbekistan in the semifinals of the Asia-Oceania junior Davis Cup under-16 tennis tournament at Shepparton, Australia, on Sunday.

India will play Australia in the match for the third place. The final will be between Uzbekistan and Korea. All the four semifinalists have made it to the World Group finals to be held in Mexico in September.

The Indian girls beat Malaysia 3-0 in a positional match, and will meet Singapore in the match for the 13th place.

The girls’ final will be between Japan and Australia.

The results: Boys (semifinals): Uzbekistan beat India 3-0 (Abduvoris Saitmukhamedov bt Saurabh Singh 6-4, 6-2; Sergey Shipilov bt Mohit Mayor 6-4, 6-2; Shipilov and Jakhongir Jalolov bt Mohit and Ronit Bisht 6-2, 6-1).

Girls (positional): India beat Malaysia 3-0 (Rishika Sunkara bt Theiviya Selvarajoo 6-2, 6-2; Ratnika Batra bt Lyn Yee Choo 6-2, 6-4; Shweta Rana and Rishika bt Choo and Selvarajoo 6-2, 6-2).
