Women take active part in roadshow Near-stampede situation at dais

Photo: Ch Vijaya Bhaskar MYLAVARAM: Telugu Desam Party’s actor-campaigner Nandamuri Balakrishna on Sunday participated in an impressive roadshow in the streets of Mylavaram for the victory of the party candidates Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan (Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency) and Devineni Umamaheswara Rao (Mylavaram Assembly constituency). Waving to the crowds, Mr. Balakrishna stood atop a van along with Mr. Umamaheswara Rao and Mr. Vamsi Mohan. Hundreds of activists followed the star campaigner’s roadshow, as women also took an active part. The actor’s fans tried to reach out and shake hands with him at every opportunity. Later addressing a public meeting, Mr. Balakrishna gave a call to the local people to give their vote to the TDP in this election and reject the Congress for all its misdeeds in the past five years. He asserted that real development and people’s welfare would be possible only under the TDP regime and this was amply clear from the way the party had brought about change in the entire State since its formation. Mr. Balakrishna said that the TDP originated when the late NTR was annoyed by the Congress government’s “insensitive” and “irresponsible” rule. Within nine months of the party’s formation, NTR came to power by defeating a decades-old party that enjoyed power for long. The Telugu people had a major relief after NTR gave a fitting lesson to the Congress leaders. Reiterating that only the TDP would give backward classes their due, Mr. Balakrishna said it was with NTR only that the poorer sections had started getting recognition and political opportunities in the State. He appealed to the weaker sections to show their complete support for their party so that they would get a better deal after the formation of the TDP government once again in the State. Mr. Balakrishna’s fans stormed towards the dais and created near stampede situation in front of it. They raised slogans in praise of the actor and whistled endlessly, which created problems for the smooth conduct of the meeting. Not many policemen were there and even his personal security men could not prevent the surging crowds.
