Minister’s PS suspended

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Government on Sunday suspended D.M. Giri Rao, private secretary of Health & Family Welfare Minister Sambani Chandrasekhar, and ordered an inquiry into his activities by the Principal Secretary of Health for his dismissal from service, following an obscene activity indulged in by him coming to light.

Video-clippings were widely telecast on TV channels on Sunday which showed Giri Rao as indulging in obscene activity, allegedly in one of the rooms of the Minister’s office in the Secretariat located on the ground floor of the ‘L’ block.

When contacted, the Minister, however, denied that such an activity taking place at all in his office and said : “Giri Rao might have done this else where. Also, it might be in the past and not now.” He said, this could be verified through keen observation of the room shown in which the activity was alleged to have taken place. He said, no room in his office has consisted of a folding cot, and the type of hanger and steel basin seen in the video-footage.

He said the government, however, launched stringent action against Giri Rao for his bad conduct. He also contended that some interested elements might have released the CD with a view to tarnishing the image of the Congress on the eve of the second phase polling. Giri Rao served as an executive officer of the AP SC Finance Corporation in Nellore district before he was brought to the Minister’s peshi on deputation within two months after the Minister was inducted into the Cabinet.
