AIADMK candidate files nomination papers

Total of nine nominations filed by three persons

Tirupur: A total of nine nomination papers were filed by three candidates in Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency on Monday.

Of the nominations, four each were filed by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate, Chellappa Sivasami (51), and the AIADMK ‘dummy’ candidate for Mr. Sivasami, Krishnasamygounder Thangaraj (32), who is presently the Chairman of Tirupur Panchayat Union.

The remaining one was filed by R. Kalaimagal Pandian (39), the candidate of Tamil Maanila Sivasena Katchi.

Mr. Sivasami, who had served as MLA during 2001-06 and was a Corporation councillor from 2006 till last week, was accompanied by former Minister S.M. Velusamy (AIADMK), Member of Parliament K. Subbarayan (Communist Party of India), and MLAs K.V. Ramanathan (Pattali Makkal Katchi), C. Govindasamy (CPI (M)), while filing his nominations with the Returning Officer.

Assets

According to the affidavit filed by the candidates, Mr. Sivasami holds cash of Rs. 23.15 lakh in his name and his wife, son and mother possess another Rs. 22.74 lakh of liquid cash.

Besides, he and his kin own shares worth a total of Rs. 36.7 lakh in three textile units.

Mr. Sivasami and family members have land at Kalipalayam and Kanakkampalayam.

The land value had been estimated, as per the affidavit, at about Rs. 2.75 crore.

Mr. Pandian is in possession of Rs. 5,000 in cash besides holding life insurance policies in his name, a car, 20 sovereigns of jewellery and three-acre land at Kuppandampalayam.
