dated April 21, 1959: Pakistan violation

The Deputy Minister of External Affairs, Mrs. Lakshmi Menon, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on April 20, said that the U.N. Chief Military Observer in Jammu and Kashmir State had given an award of violation against Pakistan in regard to the two incidents that took place on March 25, 1959. Mrs. Menon said that on March 25 and 26, Indian posts in the Tithwal and Akhnoor areas were fired at from Pakistan side of the ceasefire line. In addition, on March 26, a party of U.N. Military observers, who were proceeding to the ceasefire line from the Indian side for a joint investigation in the Tithwal area, was forced to take cover when firing came from the Pakistan side of the cease-fire line. The party of U.N. Military observers had been displaying the U.N. white flag.
