Eye screening camp organised for women
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: “Non Governmental Organisations play a crucial role in empowering women and there has been an improvement in the standard of living of women,” said former bureaucrat C.K. Gariyali on Sunday. Complementing the sustained efforts of the Working Women’s Forum (India) in bringing about a change in women’s standard of living, she said that street fights resulting in abusing of women have also come down considerably.
Ms. Gariyali inaugurated an eye screening camp organised in association with Rajan Eye Care Hospital and Rotary Club of Madras T. Nagar for grassroots women workers. Over 300 women workers participated. Among them 30 were referred for cataract surgery and 103 were advised to wear spectacles, to be provided by the hospital free of cost. Rajan Eye Care Hospital Medical Director Mohan Rajan said that ‘Privilege Cards’ would be issued to the forum members to enable them to get free eye screening and eye operations at any of their hospital branches in the city.
