COURTESY: Candidates for Puducherry Lok Sabha seat V. Narayanasamy( Congress) and M. Ramadass(PMK) exchanging pleasantries at the District Collectorate in Puducherry during filing of nominations on Monday. PUDUCHERRY: Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V. Narayanasamy and candidate of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) M. Ramadass filed nominations for the Puducherry Lok Sabha constituency on Monday. The Congress candidate V. Narayanasamy (61) was the first to file the nomination before the Returning Officer G. Ragesh Chandra for the Puducherry parliamentary constituency around 12. 30 p.m. Accompanied by president of Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee A.V. Subramanian, convenor of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam R.V. Janakiraman, leader of Puducherry Munnetra Congress P. Kannan and convenor of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi S. Pavanan, he filed the nomination. Just a few seconds after Mr. Narayanasamy emerged out of the Returning Officer’s cabin, the PMK candidate along with secretary of the Puducherry unit of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam A. Anbalagan, secretary of Communist Party of India N. Kalainathan, secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist) V. Perumal and secretary of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam N. Manimaran arrived at the District Collectorate premises to file the nomination. Both leaders came face to face and exchanged pleasantries. In his affidavit filed before the Returning Officer, Mr. Narayanasamy stated that he holds a Bachelor in Law degree from Madras Law College and also obtained Master in Law from Annamalai University. There were no cases pending against him in any of the Courts. He has cash of Rs. 25,000 and his wife N. Kalaiselvi has cash of Rs 20,000. While he has deposits in banks and financial institutions to the tune of Rs. 14.99 lakh and an insurance policy with Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) for Rs. 6 lakh, his wife has deposits to the tune of Rs 4.95 lakh and insurance policies for Rs. five lakh with LIC, Rs. four lakh with Bajaj Life Insurance and Rs. five lakh with Reliance Life Insurance. Mr. Narayanasamy owns four light motor vehicles and his wife owns a car, a two-wheeler and a tractor. He also possessed 150 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 1.5 lakh and his wife has 450 grams of jewellery worth Rs. four lakh. The Congress candidate has also declared that he had got agricultural land at Poornakuppam worth Rs 12.56 lakh and also at Thavalakuppam worth Rs 1.08 crore. His wife has got agricultural lands at Neppathur, Sirkali in Tamil Nadu and Kombakkam in Puducherry worth around Rs. 14 lakh. While Mr. Narayanasamy owns non-agricultural lands at Shanthi Nagar and Poornankuppam in Puducherry worth around Rs. 15 lakh, his wife has a plot at Gurgaon worth Rs 40 lakh. His house in Ellaiamman Koil Street is worth Rs. 23.49 lakh and his wife has residential houses at Chennai and New Delhi worth Rs. 92 lakh. PMK candidateIn his affidavit Mr. Ramadass (59) stated that he holds a Doctorate in Economics from St. Joseph College, Tiruchi. He had declared that he has cash to the tune of Rs 10,000, investments in banks and financial institutions worth Rs 1.69 lakh, bonds with State Bank of India for Rs. one lakh, an insurance policy with LIC for Rs. 62,000 and he also owned a car. His house at Thattanchavady is worth Rs. 25 lakh. His wife owns non-agriculture land in Pillaichavady worth Rs. 80,000. She also has bonds and debentures to the tune of Rs 1.95 lakh and ornaments weighing 400 grams worth Rs. 4 lakh. She has got agriculture land in Kottucheri worth Rs 4.20 lakh. Traffic snarlsEarlier in the day, traffic went haywire as large number of supporters belonging to the candidates thronged the streets to show their strength. Road users were put on hardship as supporters on motorbikes and other modes of transport went around the town raising slogans seeking support for their respective candidates. In certain areas traffic was diverted and in other places vehicles were stopped till the procession passed.
