Manmohan: post-poll alliance with Left open

NEW DELHI: Keeping post-poll options including working with the Left open, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday has said he does not rule anything in or out and everything will depend on the result of Lok Sabha elections.

“The Congress and its allies will be able to form the government. [But with regard to] other options, I am not ruling out or ruling in [anything]... It will depend on how the situation evolves,” he told reporters here when asked how many allies he visualised for the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) after the elections.

Dr. Singh went on to add that if the UPA was able to form the government after the elections, “there will be no need to go in for [tie-ups]. We will cross the bridge when we reach.”

Asked about the possibility of working with the Left in case such a need arose, he kept the option open saying that Congress had worked with the Communist parties in the past too.

To a question, the Prime Minister said: “We have had very large number of allies. We have enough experience to handle complex issues.”

Dr. Singh was speaking after releasing a book ‘A Better India — A Better World’ authored by Infosys Chief Mentor N.R. Narayan Murthy at his residence. — PTI
