Litmus test for two Ministers

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The Thursday’s electoral battle would be a litmus test for the two Ministers and a government whip from Krishna district to prove their acceptability among the people and the success of the schemes initiated by their government during the last five years.

Some of the high-profile constituencies are Avanigadda, from where Minister for Fisheries Mandali Buddha Prasad is trying his luck again and Gudivada, where Rural Water Supply Minister Pinnamaneni Koteswara Rao is taking on the TDP sitting MLA Kodali Srivenkateswara Rao (Nani). In Jaggayyapeta, Government Whip Samineni Udayabhanu is contesting against Sriram Rajagopal (Tatayya) of the TDP.

The Congress has fielded D. Padmajyothi from Tiruvuru (SC), which has so far been the backyard of Municipal Administration Minister Koneru Ranga Rao, who announced political retirement and expected a ticket for his daughter L. Tantiya Kumari.

While the ruling Congress is fighting the elections on the development plank, the TDP is pinning its hopes on popular schemes like colour TV sets to the poor and the Cash Transfer Scheme (CTS), besides highlighting the rampant ‘corruption’ in the Rajasekhara Reddy Government.
