Sequel to post-poll violence: police Shop of JD(S) leader set on fire Kozhikode: Three persons were injured in clashes between activists of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) at Azhiyur grama panchayat, near Vadakara, in the district on Tuesday. The injured CPI(M) workers were identified as Nijesh and Rajeesh. They were admitted to the Government Hospital, Mahe. The injured Youth League activist, Thalakkal Samir, was being treated at a private hospital at Vadakara. The clashes took place at Chanmundimukku and Puzhithalayil. Two houses were attacked with crude explosives. The incidents were a sequel to the post-poll violence taking place in the region, the police said. Samir’s house was damaged in stone throwing. IUML worker Yonus’ house at Puzhithalayil developed fissures when a crude bomb, reportedly thrown by a rival group, exploded. In another incident, a stationery shop owned by a Janata Dal (S) leader was set on fire by a mob allegedly owing allegiance to the CPI(M) at Vattoli, in the limits of the Kuttiyadi police station. The shop belonged to K. Damu, a former district committee member of the party, the police said. Activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) took out a march to the Circle Inspector’s Office at Koyilandy on Wednesday demanding the dropping of charges by the police against DYFI Koyilandy block committee president P. Rajesh. The police had charged Rajesh under Section 307 ( attempt to murder) and 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault) of the Indian Penal Code for intruding into the house of IUML worker Isham and attacking him with weapons two months ago, the police said.
