HYDELRABAD: The Election Commission on Wednesday ordered freezing of the bank accounts of all DWCRA groups in the State till Saturday when the process of the second phase polling, with re-poll if any, would to come to a close. This is to free members of the DWCRA groups (all women) from coming under the influence of political parties which, according to a charge made by the Congress party, were making remittances into the accounts with a view to soliciting their voters. Chief Electoral Officer I. V. Subba Rao, who announced the EC decision here, said he had come across instances of money being deposited into these accounts in Rajahmundry areas. Plea for stepsHe asked district Collectors and other authorities concerned, apart from bank managements, to take necessary steps so that these accounts were frozen till Saturday. The EC decision followed a complaint lodged with him by a Congress delegation, led by K. Janardhan Reddy, MLC, that the Telugu Desam Party and its candidates were “doing this dirty job” to woo the women voters. It submitted a CD to substantiate the charge. The Congress delegation, in its memorandum, had referred to the alleged irregularity committed by the TDP cadres, who were caught by the One Town Police station personnel in Rajahmundry for reportedly transferring money into the bank accounts of thrift group members. They alleged that when the TDP workers, who were arrested for distributing money in broad daylight in Rajahmundry City, had started transferring directly into the accounts of the SHG members.
