Pig farm makes way for BRTS road

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: Demolition of the pig farm of the Animal Husbandry Department at Peda Gadili has begun to make way for the road from Hanumanthavaka to Pineapple Colony for the Bus Rapid Transit System of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation.

The farm has been a bone of contention between the Animal Husbandry Department and the GVMC as its shifting had become necessary for the 200 ft road at Mudasarlova.

The shifting had been discussed and planned at meetings the Municipal Commissioner and other officials of GVMC had with the Animal Husbandry Department.

The shifting had been finalized after the GVMC has provided alternative infrastructure at Narava at a cost of about Rs.2 crores.

“All the facilities that are required for shifting the pig unit like slaughter house, feeding unit are provided and we have shifted there,” Animal Husbandry Joint Director Y. Simhachalam said.
