Parents of 12-year-old bride, 25-year-old groom counselled against illegal custom
|
NALGONDA: The police and the revenue officials thwarted a child marriage and counselled the parents of a 12-year-old minor bride and 25-year-old groom against the illegal custom at Kethepalli on Wednesday. Acting on specific information, the police led by Kethepalli SI K. Shankar rushed to the place where the marriage ceremony was under way in the mandal headquarters. The police foiled the proposed child marriage of a minor girl, who is a VIII standard student of a Nakrekal based school, with 25-year-old G. Sridhar of Mothkur mandal in the district. The girl’s father Venkat Reddy, who is an autorickshaw driver, reportedly told the officials that he had finalised the marriage of his daughter, who is suffering from a partial physical impairment, considering the “good marriage alliance”. However, the police along with the officials concerned warned the illiterate parents to desist from the illegal practice and obtained written statements.
