PAT FROM THE LEADER: Deccan Chargers’ captain Adam Gilchrist showered praise on Rohit Sharma.

Cape Town: Deccan Chargers captain Adam Gilchrist on Thursday heaped praise on his deputy Rohit Sharma and said the youngster from Mumbai is a ‘class act’ and is destined for more glory.

“He had been in great form last year as well and has done pretty well in the Indian ODI and Twenty20 teams. He is a class act,” Gilchrist said.

Gilchrist (71 off 45 balls) and Rohit (52 off 30 balls) matched each other shot for shot on Wednesday against Royal Challengers Bangalore even though it was the Australian who was adjudged the ‘Man of the Match’.

Serious

“Rohit has taken his vice-captain’s role very seriously and wants to be a leader some day and that is exciting,” Gilchrist said.

Gilchrist was naturally happy after the team’s second straight win but the Australian was guarded against complacency and said the team, which had finished last in the first season of the IPL, needed to maintain high standards.

“We played really well and it’s our second win on the trot. But it’s still too early to think about anything else.

I’m really happy that the hard work put in by the boys is paying off,” said the left-hander. — PTI
