Adventure Carnival begins in Kannur

ZORBING: An inflatable sphere rolls on the Payyambalam beach as part of an Adventure Carnival that began in Kannur on Friday.

KANNUR: The zorbing experience has reached the Payyambalam beach here with scores of youth and children undergoing the experience of being inside a transparent sphere that hurtles on the sandy beach.

The first day of the Adventure Carnival that began here on Friday attracted large number of youth and children to the zorbing experience. The four-day carnival being held on the Payyambalam and Muzhappilangad beaches under the joint auspices of the Kerala Youth Welfare Board in association with the Malabar Aerosports Club and ANZ Event Management began here on Friday.

On the first day of zorbing, nearly 100 adventure-loving youth and children underwent the run on the beach.

“Many of them experienced the ride inside the inflatable ball of 12 feet in diameter with excitement,” said Abdulla Maliyekkal of ANZ Event Management. The carnival aimed at attracting adventure-buffs in the age-group of 15-35 was meant to inculcate a spirit of adventure among the youth. The other adventure activities include parasailing and hot-air balloon. All the participants in the adventure activities here would be fully insured against any accident, Youth Welfare Board district coordinator P.P. Vinodan said.

Like zorbing, hot-air ballooning was also being held here for the first time. It would be held on the last day of the carnival at the Collectorate Maidan here on April 27. Parasailing would be conducted on the Muzhappilangad beach here on April 26 and 27.
